Self-actualization

It's the final frontier of needs and Maslow contended that when all other needs are met, people will be motivated to do activities that fulfill their self-actualization needs. Self-actualization implies the need to achieve your potential; to be someone or something that you are meant to be. It's your calling.

When people grow and have taken care of their financial goals, have earned their respect, and achieved success professionally, they tend to look for something else. Something that can fill a gap they feel exists. Many people change careers, and many go back to school and several others think about what they can achieve in their remaining professional career. Many technology workers take the big plunge and start their own venture. They give up a cushy and secure job for the long hours and uncertainty of a startup. In Bangalore, there are several restaurants that are owned and run by an erstwhile techie. This need can drive one to very extreme decisions.
